Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a computer system that captures, stores, manages, analyzes and displays geographic (location based) information. It is a combination of maps and spatial data. This data is displayed on a digital map. Essex County GIS maintains and analyzes GIS data, creates custom maps for county departments, local towns, government agencies and the general public.
GIS Viewer is an application that allows you to search by a property owner’s name, address or parcel ID number, highlighting the parcel on the map. It also provides several different map layers that can be turned on and off. Other specialized applications for viewing GIS data can be found below.
